Advocacy and Raising Awareness
Justice International is providing support by conducting advocacy in certain cases where raising awareness is the primary tool to achieve positive results. We realize that raising awareness about supporting human rights and rule of law is vital in our work and can play a concrete role in improving rule of law in certain situations. Using our experience with international human rights mechanisms and our understanding of the cultural and legal environment of countries of Eurasia we can play active roles in specific human rights cases.
For example, Justice International has been working with its partners in the case of Gaspar Matalaev and was advocating for justice and his immediate release. We brought the case to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Group found Matalaev’s detention arbitrary and called on Turkmenistan to order his immediate release. Many organizations jointly advocated and campaigned for Gaspar's release and, as a result, around 91,000 people petitioned for his release on the Freedom United's website.
Justice International also supports and advocates for the lawyers and human rights defenders who work in challenging conditions and as a result of their work are subject to threats, intimidation and pressure.
